A 32-year-old Miami mother has been arrested and charged with child abuse after allegedly assaulting her 12-year-old son multiple times following his accusation that she was having an extramarital affair.
Lucianny Lizbeth Luna was taken into custody on Thursday after her son reported injuries to school officials, prompting an investigation by local authorities and child protective services. The incident has resulted in one count of child abuse resulting in no harm being filed against Luna in Miami-Dade County.
According to police reports, the violent encounter began Wednesday afternoon when Luna picked up her son from school in his stepfather’s vehicle. The boy told investigators that his mother was on a phone call with someone he believed to be a man with whom she was having an affair. The situation escalated when Luna told the person on the phone she was taking her son to Gwen Cherry Park to play, but the child corrected her, stating he was going there for coach pickup, not to play.
The correction allegedly triggered a violent response from Luna. Police documented that she struck her son in the face with her right hand, leaving a small bruise between his eyebrows. The assault continued as she grabbed his hair and struck the back of his head approximately eighteen to nineteen times with a small glass bottle. While the boy reported soreness, no visible injury was found on the back of his head.
The attack persisted during the car ride home. The child told authorities his mother attempted to slash him with her keys, which he tried to deflect, resulting in a small laceration to his right palm. Upon arriving at their residence, the boy immediately informed his stepfather about the phone call, prompting the stepfather to express frustration and send the child to take a shower.
The violence resumed when the stepfather asked the boy to repeat his earlier statement. Mid-sentence, Luna allegedly struck her son on the left side of his face, causing an injury near his eye, then slammed him against a wall. As the child attempted to flee, she grabbed his towel to hold him back. The stepfather intervened, allowing the boy to escape to his room.
From outside his bedroom door, Luna allegedly shouted death threats at her son, including statements such as wanting to kill him, denying he was her son, and threatening to kill him with anything she had if he came out. Frightened for his safety, the boy contacted his aunt via Instagram, showing her his injuries and requesting she contact his grandparents for help. He later told police he wanted to call 911 but was too scared.
Medical examination revealed multiple injuries on the child, including a contusion with lacerations on his left face near his eye, a small bruise between his eyebrows, a laceration on his right palm, and a small bruise on his mid-back. The boy’s aunt corroborated his account of events and confirmed seeing the facial injury during their video call.
When questioned by police, Luna admitted to striking her son multiple times on the back, including once with an open hand, though she claimed not to recall subsequent strikes. She denied hitting him in the face or on the back of his head.
Following her arrest, Luna was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and subsequently posted a $5,000 bond on Friday. Court records indicate no scheduled hearings have been set at this time.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence within families and the impact of adult conflicts on children. Child protective services continues to monitor the situation as the legal proceedings move forward.
