A Mississippi mother faces attempted murder charges following allegations that she threatened to harm her 4-month-old infant son and sent disturbing messages and visual content to the child’s father, according to local authorities.
April Alexander, 27, was arrested after the infant’s father, who resides in California, contacted police on Monday morning to report receiving threatening messages about their child. The father provided authorities with text messages and visual materials that allegedly showed the baby in dangerous situations.
According to police reports, the messages included photographs showing the infant positioned on the ground partially underneath a vehicle. In one image, Alexander allegedly placed her foot on the child’s stomach. The accompanying text messages reportedly contained explicit threats about harming the child with the vehicle.
The father immediately called 911 after receiving the messages and shared the content with law enforcement. He also posted some of the material on social media platforms before later removing it. Police say the visual content showed Alexander handling the infant roughly while the child was crying, accompanied by verbal statements directed at the baby about the father’s alleged lack of interest in the child.
Natchez Police responded quickly to the report and initiated a search for Alexander and the infant. Officers went door-to-door in the area attempting to locate them. During the search, authorities discovered that two individuals, Jessica Griffin and Dandridge Coats, had allegedly attempted to conceal Alexander in their residence while police were conducting their investigation.
Griffin and Coats were subsequently arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and rendering criminal assistance for their alleged role in attempting to hide Alexander from law enforcement during the active search.
The infant was successfully located by authorities and determined to be safe. Child Protective Services has been notified and has opened an investigation into the incident. Officials are currently evaluating whether the child should be placed with a family member or remain in the custody of Child Protective Services while the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
The incident has raised concerns about child welfare and the importance of swift action when threats are made against vulnerable individuals. The father’s decision to immediately contact authorities from California likely played a crucial role in ensuring the child’s safety.
