Wisconsin Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Machete Attack on Ex-Girlfriend and Her Partner

A 29-year-old Wisconsin man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly breaking into his former girlfriend’s home and attacking her and her new partner with a machete in the early morning hours of Monday.

David Mairena-Garcia was arrested approximately three hours after the violent incident that left two people with serious injuries requiring immediate medical attention. The attack occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. at a residence in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

According to police reports, officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about an attack involving an edged weapon. Upon arrival, they found a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man suffering from severe injuries. Emergency medical personnel treated both victims at the scene before transporting them to a local hospital for further care.

The criminal complaint filed in Brown County reveals that Mairena-Garcia shares a child with the female victim, his former girlfriend. Investigators reported that the suspect used his own key to enter the residence where the victims were staying.

The female victim told investigators that Mairena-Garcia entered the home silently and immediately began attacking them with the machete without speaking a word. The assault resulted in the male victim sustaining injuries to his shoulder, forearm, and leg from the weapon.

The woman suffered head injuries from being beaten, along with lacerations to her hand and neck. She informed police that Mairena-Garcia had previously made multiple death threats against her through text messages and in person.

Following the initial attack inside the residence, Mairena-Garcia allegedly pursued the male victim down the street while still wielding the machete. The suspect then fled the scene in his vehicle.

Law enforcement utilized Flock camera technology to track Mairena-Garcia’s vehicle movements. Officers successfully located and apprehended him during a traffic stop at approximately 8:35 a.m., roughly three hours after the attack.

During questioning by investigators, Mairena-Garcia reportedly admitted to the assault. He told police that seeing his former partner in bed with another man triggered an uncontrollable rage, stating he wanted to kill them both.

Prosecutors have filed multiple serious charges against Mairena-Garcia, including two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Both homicide charges carry enhancements for the use of a deadly weapon, with one including an additional enhancement for domestic violence.

Additional charges include two counts of aggravated battery, armed burglary, and bail jumping. The bail jumping charge suggests Mairena-Garcia was already facing legal proceedings for a separate matter at the time of the alleged attack.

A judge set Mairena-Garcia’s bond at $750,000. He currently remains in custody at the Brown County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.

The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the potential dangers faced by individuals attempting to move forward after ending relationships. The presence of previous death threats, as reported by the victim, underscores the escalating nature of the situation that culminated in Monday’s violent attack.

Mairena-Garcia’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 19, where he will face the multiple felony charges stemming from the incident.
