Daylenn Pua Missing: The Stairway to Heaven Disappearance That Still Has No Answers

After Daylenn Pua was reported missing, search efforts quickly expanded across the rugged terrain of the Haʻikū ridge.

The Honolulu Fire Department led early operations, with support from volunteers, aerial units, and even the U.S. Navy. Crews searched steep slopes, narrow ridgelines, and heavily vegetated areas, all while dealing with dangerous conditions that made access difficult.

Even after official searches were scaled back, his family continued looking. They used private resources, including drones and helicopters, trying to cover areas that had not been fully explored.

One of the most talked-about details in the case came from the photos Daylenn had sent before he disappeared. In one image, a shape in the background appeared to resemble a person crouched in the brush. The family shared the photo publicly, hoping someone might identify what or who it was.

To this day, it has never been confirmed.

Another unsettling detail came from hikers who reported hearing cries for help in the days following his disappearance. Emergency crews responded to those reports, searching the areas where the sounds were believed to have come from, but no evidence was found.

Despite the large-scale search and the attention the case received, there has never been a confirmed trace of Daylenn. No belongings were recovered from the trail, and no final location has ever been established.

Years later, the case remains open.

Daylenn Pua’s disappearance continues to raise questions, especially because of the final photos he sent. Those images remain the last confirmed proof of where he was, and they still leave one question unanswered: what happened after that moment on the ridge.
