In 1989, Aurora Schuck of Aurora, Indiana, was remembered in a way unlike almost any other. Her final request was not a traditional burial, but one deeply personal and meaningful to her.

Aurora had long expressed to her husband, Raymond Schuck, that she wanted to be laid to rest inside her favorite vehicle — a 1976 red Cadillac Eldorado convertible. It was a wish that reflected her strong attachment to the car.

After Aurora passed at the age of 62, Raymond honored her request with careful planning. He purchased 14 adjoining plots at Riverview Cemetery to make space for the unique burial.

A large concrete vault was constructed to accommodate both the Cadillac and Aurora’s placement. The preparation required significant effort to ensure the structure would safely hold everything.

During the ceremony, Aurora was placed in the driver’s seat of the Cadillac, with her seatbelt fastened and flowers arranged around her. The moment drew attention from the local community due to its unusual nature.

The burial process involved sealing the vault with a 16-ton concrete lid and large amounts of poured cement, ensuring the site would remain preserved over time.

In 2002, Raymond Schuck passed away. His cremated remains were placed inside the same vault, reuniting him with Aurora and fulfilling the lasting connection they shared.

Today, the site remains one of the most unique burial stories in the United States, remembered as a powerful example of devotion, personal wishes, and a promise kept.
