Brittanee Drexel Case: From Spring Break Disappearance to 2022 Confession

In April 2009, 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel traveled from Chili, New York, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for a spring break trip that would end in tragedy.

According to reports, Brittanee had gone without her mother’s permission. On the night of April 25, she left the Bar Harbor Hotel and walked approximately 1.5 miles along Ocean Boulevard to the Blue Water Resort to visit a friend.

Security cameras captured her arriving at the resort and later leaving. She sent a text message to her boyfriend saying she was heading back, but communication stopped shortly afterward.

Investigators later traced her phone activity, which indicated movement away from Myrtle Beach toward a rural area near the Georgetown and Charleston county line. After that, there were no further confirmed signals.

For years, the case remained unsolved, drawing national attention and widespread speculation. Brittanee’s disappearance became one of the most widely known missing person cases connected to spring break travel.

In May 2022, authorities announced a major breakthrough. Raymond Moody confessed to his involvement and led investigators to Brittanee’s remains in Georgetown County.

In October 2022, Moody pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison, along with additional sentences for kidnapping and related charges.

After more than 13 years, Brittanee Drexel’s family finally received answers about what happened.

The case continues to be remembered as a tragic example of how quickly an ordinary situation can turn into a long-standing mystery.
