In August 2013, 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa set out on a drive from Illinois to California to visit his parents. What should have been a routine trip soon turned into one of the most puzzling missing person cases in recent years.
During the journey, Bryce began making unusual stops. Reports indicate that he pulled over multiple times, sometimes remaining in his car for hours without a clear reason. His behavior raised concern among those who encountered him, including roadside assistance workers who noted that something seemed off.
Bryce also spoke with his parents during the trip, expressing thoughts and emotions that worried them. At various points, law enforcement officers encountered him and conducted welfare checks. Each time, they determined he was not in immediate danger and allowed him to continue.
He never reached his destination.
Bryce’s vehicle was later found at the bottom of a ravine near Castaic Lake in California. The crash suggested the car had gone over the edge, but Bryce was not at the scene. His wallet, phone, and other personal belongings were left inside the vehicle.
Search efforts were extensive. Authorities deployed helicopters, ground teams, and volunteers to comb the surrounding area, but no trace of Bryce was ever located.
In the time leading up to his disappearance, Bryce’s family later shared that he had been experiencing emotional struggles and behaving differently, though there was no clear indication of what might happen next.
More than a decade later, Bryce Laspisa remains missing. Occasional reported sightings have not been confirmed, and the case continues to be unresolved.
His disappearance is often cited as a case where warning signs were present, help was nearby, yet answers never came.
