Nebraska Father Sentenced After Infant’s Death

A case in Lincoln, Nebraska, has drawn attention after a father was sentenced following the death of his infant daughter.

Ryan Greenwood, 36, received a sentence of 65 to 80 years in prison on May 8, 2026, in Lancaster County District Court after being found guilty of child abuse resulting in d*ath. The conviction followed a five-day jury trial in March 2026, where he pleaded not guilty.

According to court records, the incident occurred on August 13, 2025, while Greenwood was home alone with his 4-month-old daughter, Elizabeth, as the child’s mother was out.

Greenwood later told investigators he had been handling the baby roughly, after which she began crying intensely and showed signs of distress. When the mother returned, she reportedly noticed unusual crying and wanted to seek medical attention, but this was delayed.

The following morning, the infant was found unresponsive. Emergency services were contacted after attempts were made to revive her.

An autopsy determined the cause to be traumatic brain injury, with findings consistent with non-accidental harm. A medical expert stated that earlier medical intervention could have improved the chances of survival.

Investigators also reviewed prior concerns involving the child’s handling, which were included in testimony during the trial.

Both parents were initially charged, though the mother was later found not competent to stand trial, with further review pending.

The case has raised ongoing concerns about infant safety, early intervention, and recognizing warning signs before situations escalate.
