A case in Wisconsin has raised concerns about child safety after a babysitter left multiple young children unattended in a vehicle.
Hannah Sprang, 24, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, received probation following an incident that occurred on July 18, 2025, in a parking lot outside a nail salon in Manitowoc.
According to reports, Sprang was responsible for three toddlers, ages 1, 2, and 2, when she parked an SUV with the engine turned off and went inside for a nail appointment. She remained inside for approximately one hour and 28 minutes.
Although the outside temperature was around 69 degrees, the interior of the vehicle reached approximately 81 degrees during that time.
Authorities were alerted around 12:17 p.m. after someone reported the children being left unattended. Deputies responded to the scene and later reviewed surveillance footage from the business.
While Sprang told officers she had checked on the children multiple times, video reportedly showed she stepped outside only once before law enforcement arrived.
In court, one parent shared that the incident had a lasting emotional impact, stating that their child now expresses fear about being left in a vehicle.
A judge sentenced Sprang to probation, reducing two of the charges to misdemeanors and deferring a felony charge for three years. If she complies with all conditions, including a permanent ban on babysitting or childcare services, the remaining charge will be dismissed.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the risks associated with leaving children unattended in vehicles, even for short periods of time.
