On June 27, 1995, Jodi Huisentruit, a 27-year-old television news anchor in Mason City, Iowa, disappeared under circumstances that remain unexplained to this day. Her case quickly became one of the most well-known missing person investigations in the state.
Early that morning, Jodi called her producer around 4 a.m., explaining that she had overslept but was on her way to work. This would be the last confirmed contact anyone had with her.
When Jodi failed to arrive at the station, concern grew. Later that morning, police were called to her apartment complex, where they discovered her car still parked in the lot.
The scene suggested a sudden and unexpected struggle. Personal items, including a shoe and other belongings, were found scattered near her vehicle. Her car key was bent in the lock, indicating possible force.
Investigators also noted drag marks near the car, leading them to believe she was taken quickly. There were no witnesses who reported hearing anything unusual at the time.
In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Jodi had expressed concerns to friends that she felt she was being watched. Reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area added to the uncertainty surrounding the case.
Despite extensive investigation, no confirmed trace of Jodi Huisentruit has ever been found. She was legally declared deceased in 2001, though the case remains open.
More than 25 years later, her disappearance continues to be one of Iowa’s most enduring mysteries, leaving investigators and the public searching for answers.
