A case in Texas County has drawn significant attention after authorities discovered human remains on a rural property, leading to serious charges against a couple who had previously reported their son missing.
According to the Texas County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were identified as those of 18-year-old Ceasar Asbury. Confirmation was made through dental records by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Chaun Asbury, 42, and Tamala Asbury, 45, had told investigators their son had run away years earlier. However, a search warrant executed at their home revealed a different reality.
Deputies located skeletal remains buried in a shallow grave on the property while conducting a welfare check related to other children living at the residence.
The search also uncovered three juveniles inside the home in extremely concerning conditions. Authorities reported that one child was confined in a shed without utilities, restrained to a bed, and severely malnourished. Investigators also noted the home lacked basic services such as a functioning sewer system and observed signs consistent with ongoing neglect and physical harm.
Officials stated that one of the children was in critical condition at the time of discovery, with authorities indicating the situation could have turned fatal within a short period if help had not arrived.
Sheriff Scott Lindsey described the case as one of the most severe instances of child neglect and abuse he had encountered in his career.
The couple now faces multiple charges, including second-degree mrder, abuse or neglect of a child resulting in dath, abandonment of a corpse, domestic assault, and multiple counts related to child neglect.
The case remains ongoing as authorities continue their investigation.
