A Texas couple accused of leaving their infant unattended on a Florida beach has reached an agreement that could allow them to avoid a criminal conviction.
Brian Wilks and Sara Wilks, from the Houston area, entered a deferred prosecution agreement following the incident.
Under the terms, the couple must:
Complete 25 hours of community service
Attend a parenting class
Avoid any new arrests for 12 months
If they meet these conditions, child neglect charges will be dropped.
The case stems from an incident on October 10, 2025, at Miramar Beach in Walton County, Florida.
Deputies responded after beachgoers reported a 6-month-old baby left alone under a tent.
Witnesses told authorities the infant had been unattended for approximately 56 minutes while the parents walked down the beach with their three older children.
When deputies arrived, the parents returned and reportedly said they had put the baby down for a nap and lost track of time.
Authorities stated both parents admitted to leaving the child unattended, and they were arrested at the scene.
The case has raised questions about supervision, parenting responsibility, and how such situations are handled within the legal system.
