A 25-year-old Texas man will spend the next 38 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend during what authorities described as a heated argument over money matters.
Donevyn Bowie admitted to killing Shamiah Allen on December 15, 2023, at their apartment complex in San Antonio. The fatal shooting occurred while Allen was taking a bath in their residence at the Ridgeline at Rogers Ranch Apartments, located in the 3200 block of North Loop 1604 West.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the couple had been engaged in an intense disagreement about financial issues when the situation turned deadly. Bowie retrieved a firearm and shot Allen twice in the head while she was in the bathtub.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. that evening. Upon arrival, they discovered Allen suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead from her injuries.
Bowie remained at the apartment when police arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Following his arrest, he initially claimed that the shooting had been accidental, though this assertion was contradicted by the evidence and circumstances of the case.
The defendant had been scheduled to stand trial earlier this month but chose to enter a guilty plea to the murder charge instead. The 38-year sentence was handed down following his admission of guilt.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales characterized the killing as a senseless act of violence that occurred in a moment of anger.
