An incident in Texas has drawn widespread attention after allegations surfaced involving the treatment of a young student at an elementary school.
According to reports, a mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez, raised concerns after her 5-year-old autistic and nonverbal son returned home with visible injuries. She sought medical attention, where he was diagnosed with a fracture and a sprain.
The following day, Rodriguez requested answers from school officials. She was later shown surveillance footage from inside the classroom, which she described as deeply distressing.
The footage reportedly shows multiple moments in which staff members handled the child in a forceful manner. In one instance, a staff member appears to push the child to the ground. In another, a separate moment shows contact with the child’s injured ankle.
The school district, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, confirmed that the incident was reported to the Texas Education Agency. Authorities also stated that the case has been forwarded to the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The district confirmed that the employees involved are no longer working at the school. However, no criminal charges have been announced at this time.
Rodriguez has expressed that while the termination of the employees is a step, she believes further action is necessary. She is currently exploring legal options.
The case has raised broader concerns about the treatment of vulnerable students and the systems in place to ensure their safety in educational environments.
As of now, the investigation remains ongoing.
