A tragic case in Brazil has claimed a second life, weeks after an influencer died from suspected methanol poisoning.
Fridman Gustavo Amorim Brito, 22, from Bahia, Brazil, passed away after spending nearly a month in the hospital. His death comes shortly after his girlfriend, influencer Yasmim Ângela Feitosa de Souza, died from the same cause.
According to reports, both had consumed adulterated whiskey during a birthday celebration in Petrolina, Brazil.
Following the gathering, de Souza became ill and died soon after. Brito and a third individual who had also consumed the drink were hospitalized and treated with an antidote for methanol poisoning.
After 29 days of medical care, Brito died from the effects of the poisoning. The third friend survived and was later discharged from the hospital.
Health authorities confirmed the presence of methanol in the beverage as well as in Brito’s system.
Yasmim Ângela Feitosa de Souza had built a social media following of more than 23,000, where she frequently shared content that included moments with her boyfriend.
The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of contaminated alcohol and continues to be investigated by health officials.
