Pennsylvania Music Instructor Sentenced After Multiple Victims Come Forward

A case in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, has led to a lengthy prison sentence after multiple victims came forward over incidents spanning decades.

Timothy James Shay, 51, of Plumstead Township, was sentenced to 18 to 54 years in state prison after a judge imposed consecutive sentences tied to 18 victims. The ruling came from Judge Stephen A. Corr, who ordered one- to three-year terms for each count.

The case began in early 2025 when a former student reported past incidents to Middletown Township police, describing experiences that dated back to the late 1990s. Shay was initially charged in February 2025 in connection with four victims.

After authorities released information and encouraged others to come forward, an additional 14 individuals reported similar experiences, bringing the total number of victims to 18. According to investigators, the incidents occurred during private music lessons, including piano and occasionally saxophone instruction.

The lessons took place in various settings, including homes, music stores, and at least one school in areas such as Newtown and Langhorne. Some of the victims reported that the inappropriate conduct began when they were as young as five years old.

In September 2025, Shay entered no-contest pleas to 38 charges. During sentencing, several victims addressed the court directly, while statements from others were presented by prosecutors.

The case highlights the importance of reporting and the impact of multiple voices coming forward over time.
