In 2011, a case in Port St. Lucie, Florida, shocked the nation after a teenager committed a brutal act and then invited dozens of people into the same home hours later.
Tyler Hadley, 17 at the time, fatally attacked both of his parents, Mary Jo, 47, and Blake Hadley, 54, on July 16, 2011, before hosting a house party while their bodies remained inside the residence.
Earlier that day, Tyler had posted on social media hinting at a party. In the days leading up to the incident, his mother had reportedly told others she believed he was doing better.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m., Tyler ingested drugs, hid his parents’ phones, and retrieved a hammer from the garage. He then carried out the attack inside the home. Afterward, he spent hours attempting to clean the scene and conceal what had happened by covering the bodies with household items.
By the evening, he posted again inviting people over. By midnight, approximately 60 teenagers had gathered inside the house, unaware of what had occurred earlier.
During the party, Tyler reportedly made statements about going to prison, which some initially dismissed. Around 1:00 a.m., he showed a close friend the locked bedroom where the scene was hidden.
That friend later contacted authorities anonymously.
Officers arrived in the early morning hours of July 17 and discovered both victims inside the home.
In February 2014, Tyler Hadley pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree m*rder. On March 20, 2014, he was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.
The case remains one of the most disturbing examples of how extreme actions and detachment can unfold within a short period of time.
