A fifth person has now been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old.
Authorities in South Carolina say Kahlil Simmons was shot and killed on April 13. Another teenager was also injured during the incident.
As the investigation unfolded, multiple arrests followed.
Initially, four individuals were taken into custody. Among them, 18-year-old Jared Grant Marsh II and 17-year-old Tyler Hans Lariscey are now facing upgraded or additional charges, including murder and attempted murder.
Investigators allege that after the shooting, the suspects fled to the home of 40-year-old Tarah Alexander and 40-year-old Bryan Alexander. Authorities say the pair attempted to help cover up the crime.
Both Tarah and Bryan Alexander have since been charged as accessories after the fact to murder.
The case expanded further with the arrest of a 16-year-old, who is now facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
At this time, officials have not released detailed information about what led up to the shooting.
With five people now in custody, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together exactly what happened.
