A family meal turned into the center of a criminal case that shocked investigators.
A 36-year-old woman from Decorah, Iowa, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting she helped spike a homemade lasagna with a prescription drug in an attempt to harm a pregnant relative.
According to authorities, Amber Dena Snow, along with her husband, 35-year-old Matthew Louis Uthoff, prepared and delivered a large family-size pan of lasagna to relatives. Investigators say the goal was to secretly cause a miscarriage.
The plan, however, did not go as intended.
Officials confirmed that the dish later tested positive for oxycodone at the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation crime lab.
The case came to light after a tip was reported in January 2026, prompting the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation.
During the inquiry, electronic messages between Snow and Uthoff were uncovered, which prosecutors say directly linked them to the plan.
Despite the alleged intent, authorities emphasized that the pregnant woman and her baby were not harmed, and no miscarriage occurred.
Snow has since been sentenced to a decade behind bars.
Her husband, who is also accused in the case, has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial.
