Delivery Driver Fatally Shot After Highway Confrontation Escalates at Distribution Center

A delivery driver was fatally shot outside a distribution center in Riviera Beach, Florida, following what authorities describe as a highway confrontation that escalated into deadly violence. The incident has resulted in first-degree murder and aggravated stalking charges against 24-year-old Tyler Brandon Vidro.

The fatal encounter began Thursday evening on Florida’s Turnpike when Vidro allegedly pulled alongside a FedEx truck driven by Nathaniel Padgett, who was accompanied by his girlfriend. According to police documents, Vidro lowered his window and made provocative gestures, appearing to attempt to initiate a confrontation with the delivery driver.

Padgett did not engage with Vidro and continued driving to the FedEx distribution facility located at 1177 West Blue Heron Boulevard. However, Vidro followed the truck into the private parking area of the restricted facility. After Padgett parked the company vehicle and briefly entered the building, he returned to his personal vehicle in the parking lot.

Surveillance footage captured Vidro confronting Padgett, accusing him of hitting his car. Padgett denied the allegation and attempted to distance himself from Vidro, using explicit language to tell him to leave. The situation intensified as Padgett got into his truck and drove to another section of the parking lot, with Vidro pursuing him, reportedly screeching his tires during the chase.

The confrontation reached its tragic conclusion when Padgett exited his vehicle on a private road within the facility grounds, picking up a cinder block approximately the size of a bowling ball. As Padgett approached Vidro’s vehicle, denying that he had thrown anything at the car, Vidro allegedly opened fire.

Police reports indicate Vidro fired nine shots, with seven striking Padgett in multiple areas including his chest, abdomen, arm, and leg. Padgett’s girlfriend immediately called emergency services, desperately trying to keep him conscious. In recorded 911 audio, she can be heard reassuring Padgett after he expressed fear that he would die. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Padgett succumbed to his injuries.

Following the shooting, Vidro contacted authorities himself, stating that his lawyer had advised him to call. He claimed self-defense and confirmed his involvement in the shooting, telling police he had emptied his weapon’s magazine. He then requested legal representation before making additional statements.

Law enforcement officials have rejected Vidro’s self-defense claim, noting that Florida’s Stand Your Ground law only applies when individuals are in locations where they have a lawful right to be. Since the FedEx distribution center is a restricted facility, authorities determined Vidro had no legal right to be on the property. They argued that Padgett, as someone conducting legitimate business at his workplace, had full legal standing and no obligation to retreat.

Investigators emphasized that Vidro’s actions demonstrated a pattern of stalking behavior, including tracking Padgett across multiple locations, entering restricted private property without authorization, and repeatedly pursuing Padgett despite the victim’s attempts to avoid confrontation.

Vidro was arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 18.

Padgett leaves behind three children: Niya, Ty’Darrius, and Ava. Family members have established a fundraising campaign describing him as a devoted father and family man who cared deeply about those around him.
