A 27-year-old Oklahoma man faces first-degree murder charges following the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend during an early morning dispute on Easter Sunday. Connor Allen Kinnamon was arrested in Kansas after allegedly shooting 27-year-old Audrey Adams in the back of the head while she held their 5-year-old son.

The incident unfolded at a residence in Cushing, Oklahoma, where multiple family members were present. According to investigators, the couple had been engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation involving shoving. Kinnamon’s mother initially intervened to separate the pair.

Tensions intensified when Adams contacted her mother to arrange transportation from the home. Police reports indicate this phone call agitated Kinnamon further. The situation reached its tragic conclusion in the home’s living room area.

According to witness statements documented by investigators, Kinnamon was positioned in the dining area facing the front door while Adams held their young son. As Adams’s mother encouraged her daughter to leave with her, Kinnamon allegedly made a statement about shooting himself. He then produced a firearm and shot Adams, who collapsed immediately onto the living room floor.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but Adams was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m. The couple’s 5-year-old son was physically unharmed in the incident.

Following the shooting, Kinnamon fled through the back door of the residence, taking his mother’s Buick Regal. His mother immediately contacted emergency services, informing dispatchers that her son had left in her vehicle.

Law enforcement tracked Kinnamon’s movements by monitoring his cellphone location as he traveled northbound toward Kansas. Deputies successfully established phone contact with him during his flight, negotiating his eventual surrender. Authorities coordinated with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas to secure the vehicle and recover what investigators believe to be the weapon used in the shooting. A single spent 9mm shell casing was discovered at the scene.

During subsequent interviews with detectives, Kinnamon reportedly admitted to the shooting. He also disclosed that both he and Adams had used methamphetamine in the hours preceding the incident, though toxicology results remain pending.

Prosecutors filed a motion requesting that Kinnamon be held without bond, citing the severity of the alleged crime. Court documents confirm he shot Adams in the back of the head and later confessed to the killing.

Kinnamon currently remains in custody at the Payne County Jail without bond. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 4. The first-degree murder charge he faces carries significant potential penalties under Oklahoma law.

The case has left a young child without his mother and highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes that escalate to violence. Family members who witnessed the tragedy are cooperating with the ongoing investigation as prosecutors prepare to present their case in court.
