A Central Florida couple who discovered their baby was not biologically theirs after an IVF mix-up has reached an agreement with the child’s biological parents.
Tiffany Score and Steven Mills will remain the child’s permanent custodial parents following a mutual agreement between both families.
The couple originally created three embryos at the Fertility Center of Orlando in 2020. One embryo was implanted in Score in March 2025, and she later gave birth to a baby girl, Shea, on December 11, 2025.
After the birth, the couple noticed physical differences that raised questions. Genetic testing later confirmed the child was 100% South Asian and had no biological connection to Score or Mills.
Court records and reports indicate the fertility clinic admitted to a laboratory error, which resulted in the wrong embryo being implanted.
In January 2026, Score and Mills filed a lawsuit in Orange County Circuit Court against the clinic and its lead doctor, Dr. Milton McNichol.
DNA testing eventually identified the biological parents, a South Asian couple who have remained unnamed in court filings.
Both families have now reached a custody agreement, allowing Score and Mills to raise the child while maintaining a connection with her biological parents.
According to the biological parents’ attorney, both families plan to stay involved in the child’s life while navigating the complex situation caused by the clinic’s error.
Score and Mills have also committed to building a relationship based on trust and mutual respect, while honoring the privacy of the biological family.
