A former special education teacher in Chester County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced following a case involving a student.
Michelle Mercogliano, 36, who previously worked at Conestoga High School in Tredyffrin Township, pleaded guilty to charges related to an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student.
According to court records, the relationship began in February 2025 and continued for approximately two months.
Investigators determined that Mercogliano would meet the student after school and transport him to various locations, including private residences. Authorities also stated that she provided marijuana to the student on multiple occasions.
The case was brought to light through police investigation and evidence gathered from reports and testimony.
Judge Allison Bell Royer sentenced Mercogliano to a minimum of 15 months in Chester County Prison. In addition to the prison term, she will serve more than six years of probation following her release.
The case has raised concerns about boundaries, authority, and the responsibilities of educators in positions of trust.
