What was meant to be a final moment of respect turned into something no one in the room could have imagined.
During a funeral viewing, attendees noticed a woman approach the open casket. At first, it seemed like a quiet, personal moment, possibly someone adjusting makeup or saying goodbye.
But something wasn’t right.
The woman was later identified as Shaynna Lauren Sims, the girlfriend of the deceased woman’s former partner. Witnesses initially didn’t intervene, believing her actions were harmless.
They were wrong.
Funeral staff soon discovered that the body had been disturbed in a deeply unsettling way. What had taken place went far beyond anything expected in such a setting.
Authorities were called, and the investigation quickly revealed more.
When Sims was searched, officers found tools in her possession along with items connected to the incident. Further evidence recovered from her home confirmed what had happened.
Prosecutors later stated the act was driven by intense jealousy and fixation, emotions that had escalated into something far more disturbing.
In 2017, Sims was convicted on multiple charges and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The case shocked many, not only because of the actions themselves, but because of where they happened, a place meant for closure, respect, and peace.
Instead, it became the scene of something no one there would ever forget.
