An Arkansas State Trooper has resigned after offensive messages surfaced as part of a divorce case.
Michael Austin Kennedy, who had served as a state trooper since 2021, stepped down from his position on May 15, just days after his estranged wife filed updated divorce documents.
According to court filings, Alana Kennedy included more than two dozen screenshots of text messages as exhibits.
The messages reportedly contained racial slurs targeting Black, Hispanic, and Muslim individuals, along with derogatory remarks about women and members of the LGBTQ community.
In the filing, Alana Kennedy alleged that her husband expressed “white supremacist” views and raised concerns about how those beliefs could affect their two young children.
Kennedy’s attorney responded in court documents, stating that his client takes full responsibility for the language used. The attorney said Kennedy deeply regrets the messages, acknowledges they were improper, and claims they do not reflect his current values.
He also denied being a white supremacist.
The situation has drawn attention to the conduct of law enforcement officers outside of their official duties, particularly when such behavior becomes part of public court records.
