A Florida Walmart cashier is facing felony charges after authorities say she took a winning lottery ticket from an elderly customer.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the victim had played the same lottery numbers daily and recently won $2,700.
He went to a Walmart in DeLand, Florida to claim his prize.
Investigators say 40-year-old Tameka Lashon Hall, working as a cashier, scanned the ticket and explained the process for collecting the winnings.
However, authorities allege she failed to return the validation receipt.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Hall folding the receipt and placing it into the pocket of her work vest before leaving for the day.
The customer realized the receipt was missing hours later and returned to the store.
After reviewing the footage, store management contacted law enforcement.
Deputies later located Hall inside the Walmart security office. She told investigators she had been distracted and intended to give the receipt to a manager but never did.
Authorities say the receipt was later found in her car.
Hall was arrested and charged with felony grand theft. She has also been terminated from her position.
The case remains under investigation.
